Hi, I'm using Xfce4.8 on Debian Wheezy and been trying to change the file manager in preferred applications from Thunar 1.2.3 to either PCman or Xfe but it just doesn't work. I tried this suggestion http://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=6308 to no avail. The desired file manager shows up properly in the preferred applications window but when I double-click on a folder it is automatically opened in Thunar. I also don't have the "Open with" option on right-click. Of course I tried logging out and rebooting after the change. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks...

Where are you double-clicking on a folder? On the desktop? If so, see: https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=7332. It was a bug in 4.8.

Yes on the desktop. Is there a patch for this bug or is an upgrade to 4.10 the only option?

what about uninstalling xfdesktop and let the desktop manage by pcman(like in lxde)

Might as well switch to lxde!
Anyway it's too restrictive. I'd like to keep xfdesktop, it's not the problem and there is no reason to deprecate xfce because of a temporary bug.

I don't believe the patch was back-ported to the 4.8 series, so you will have to update to 4.10 if you want the fix.

also could try something like mv /usr/bin/thunar /usr/bin/thunar.bak; ln -s /usr/bin/pcmanfm /usr/bin/thunar since you don't use thunar(i do the same in kde to open everything in konqueror)

Xfce 4.10 is the default on Debian Testing so not so far around the corner. Either way I'm contemplating a switch to testing for some time now so I guess I'll just bite the bullet for the moment.
I created a PCman launcher on the desktop to solve this. Drag and drop folders on the launcher as needed. Ugly but doesn't mess with the system.
