Is there a guide to compiling and installing the new version? This would be something I have never done before. I'm running Mint Linux 17.1 x64 Xfce 4.10.
Thanks

I took the lazy option:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.12
sudo apt-get update
...and then exit the terminal and use mintUpdate (the "shield" icon in your panel).
I figure it's all been compiled once already, why repeat the effort, lol? Plus, after you add the Xfce 4.12 PPA, any updates it receives will semi-automatically (you'll still have to approve the update process via mintUpdate, just like any other one) be installed into my system without me having to keep checking to see when a new version of something comes out and then deal with it.

I may do just that on my Mint system. I'm also going through the Linux from Scratch project and was wondering how to go about getting it installed.

XFCE 4.12 will be included in Linux Mint 17.2.

That's good to hear. I have MX-14 installed on my test box to check out Xfce 4.12.
