I thought it might be helpful for those on the fence to write about my upgrade experience. I compiled it myself and expected at least two or three issues to be resolved by try and error. However, there were none ;-). There was just a missing dependency (gtksourceview) for compiling mousepad, where configure erroneously indicated that version 3+ would be required. Given that this is the version for Gtk3, I assumed a glitch and added the version for GTK2 -> problem solved.
There was one change after the first login:
The disk icons on the desktop had to be moved farther to the right - again something hardly worth writing home about ;-).
Thanks for the smooth and surprisingly trouble-free update,
b.

Same here. We have compiled 4.12 for Wheezy and tested it for a week among the Devs, with no problem reported whatsoever. We are going to be moving the debs to the main server in the next couple of days, and I will post the repo information when that happens in case anyone is interested.
