Which version of Thunar and Xfce and which distro are you using?
Do you have the proper permissions to your Desktop?
ls -l ~ | grep Desktop
And finally, how are your XDG user-dirs set up?
cat ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs | grep -v \#

Thunar version 1.6.3
XFCE version 4.1.0
# ls -l ~ | grep Desktop
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jan 19 12:28 Desktop
# cat ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs | grep -v \#
cat: /root/.config/user-dirs.dirs: No such file or directory

Are you logged in as root? Or just su'ing in the terminal.
Are you running thunar as root?

I am using Puppy linux.
Everything is root.

you probably need to install a compatible desktop manager in that case eg: pcmanfm, nautilus, caja or xfdesktop

What I have been using is supposed to be compatible. ??
It's probably a Puppy issue, but I can't get help from the Puppy Forum.
I may decide to dump Puppy for another distro that has more support.
Take care. :-)
