[Solved] Removing text labels from taskbar icons

Hi.  I am trying Xfce for the first time as I flee from cursed Unity in Ubuntu 14.04.

Is there any way to remove the text labels from the taskbar icons so that only the icon for the application is displayed?

I'm guessing you are talking about the Window Buttons that shows the open applications. For that right click anywhere on the panel, select Panel - Panel Preferences - Items - Windows Buttons and the preferences icon on the right. First option is show labels, unselect that.
