Hey all,
Using Xfce for some years now (besides other wm's/desktop environments), but never actually registered here!
My father gave me his Asus eeepc 1005p netbook, because the Win7 was terribly slow. Even tho the specs were actually not all that bad (Intel Atom Pineview-M N450 CPU, 2G ddr2 Corsair RAM). A great setup for a dedicated nice Debian+Xfce installation, whilst also being able to run virtualization software (Virtualbox) or other more demanding software. It works like a charm and I am really happy with Xfce! Being kinda tired with staying uptodate with alternatives, I now only use Xfce on my machines; it's simple, yet powerfull; it's fancy, yet low on resources and dependencies! Hopefully I can contribute something back to the community as I really 'believe' in Xfce (and Debian ;)

There are lots of Debian XFCEers out there. We should start a club.
Many have mimiced your experience and found the solution in XFCE. Your description of it is spot on. Look forward to your contributions.
A fellow believer,
Welcome.
