Hi I am running Fedora 19 with the Xfce spin..
I deleted the thumbnails in my ~/.cache/thumbnails and suddenly all my desktop icons for Home/Trash/ Mounted drives etc. have dissappeared!
Also, do not have the wallpaper any more, just the generic start up wallpaper!
Can anyone help me rectify this without completely reinstalling everything please?
Kind Regards
Bob

Deleting ~/.cache/thumbnails should not have had this effect on your system. That being said, it sounds like xfdesktop may have crashed. Look for it in your "ps" listing. It can be restarted by manually running:
xfdesktop

Hi, thanks for that.....
I seem to have cured it! Not sure what I did, but at some point I did try running 'xfdesktop' mabye that's what sorted it out... Who knows.
Kind Regards

Yes. xfdesktop is the Xfce module that manages the desktop (wallpaper, icons, etc).
