Can't quite figure this out

This should be really easy...but I can't quite figure out how to change the background on panel buttons. I've attached a screenshot showing what I would like to change...it's the gray colour that the red arrow is pointing to. I want that to be black but I can't see where in my theme I need to change it.

The backgrounds are images so there isn't a setting for changing the colour. However it can still be done. I wanted transparent background and found this - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1973741. If you substitute images in whatever colour(s) you want it should work.

Actually if you want balck and the panel is black making it transparent should also work.
