I'm running ubuntu 12.04 and want to switch from gnome to xfce4 but have run into one issue (well two but I can live with the limited notifications issues)
-
I configured a panel with windows button - i can sort the buttons left to right in various fashions via configuraition of the plugin but I cannot figure out how to sort the list of windows that have been grouped (i.e, if I have 50 firefox windows it would be much easier to find the right one in the list if they were sorted).
I believe that ubuntu 12.04 is using xfce4-session 4.8.3 and xfce4-panel 4.8.6

I've done numerous searches for the answer to this question and found a couple of folks asking a similar thing but not an actual answer.

I'm pretty sure the version of window-button-plugin with ubuntu 12.04 does not support this; does anyone know if a newer version does or how I can find out? Is this sort of thing in line with the philosophy of xfce or anti-xfce (I saw a post somewhere that mentioned that certain features where outside the objective of xfce but it wasn't clear to me how to determine such).

No problem grouping windows in Xubuntu 12.04 -> http://s8.postimg.org/b9jegxsfp/1_2.png

Grouping, no; sorting (what the OP is concerned with), yes. There are no options for configuring the sorting behavior of grouped windows, and the sorting order option for non-grouped windows (directly above the item that you placed the red rectangle around in your .PNG) do not apply to grouped items (within their grouping), either.

Oh, I see the difference now. Thank you for your explanation
And yes, the sorting order doesn't seem to work when the windows are grouped.
