Under testing I found that midori wont show a picture for a speed-dial/bookmark if the website uses https
ok the answer is because the arch forum uses https if you change it to http it loads
firefox speed-dial shows any webpage and doesnt fail on https
Ill look into if theres a way to set midori to use https as well as https to configure it to run with https
as it would be a pain in the arse to have to edit the https to http everytime you bookmark a website that uses https
but if you have no bother with that and only have a select few websites you want to display then just chnage the https to http
as you can see the second bookmark is arch forums https but the third ive set to http and it loads fine

about my midori:
community/midori 0.4.9-1 [installed]
about http and https... well if I bookmark "http://google.fr" it fails. if I do it a second time I got a rendered bookmarks (the one who failed and the second one) if i deleted the second one, I still have the first one rendered. Notice : google.fr doesn't use https... I did the same operation with https://bbs.archlinux.org/ and then I got a rendered bookmark. I guess it's a bug, what do you think?

Yea it looks like its a bug with midori
for the most part speeddial works great with firefox and Ive tested the google.fr in firefox and midori ,midori fails to render the image and firefox renders it. I thought it was only https but it seems midori fails on a couple more. its a shame as midori is actaully a nice little browser
Ive never used midori before but I kinda like it now after using it
I suggest you sumit a bug report to midori so it can get fixed
if it really bugs you use firefox or debians version icewesel other than than just use the book mark toolbar

I want it working fine, with or without "miniatures", maybe the term "thumbmail pictures" is better...
Anyway I just realized, if I bookmark a site from it directly, I mean not by the "fast link tab" (n.b. don't know the name in english, but it's the tab you can see in my screenshots), it's working, I try for youtube, xfce forum, and another one.
about midori vs firefox : I gave a try in the past to midori, but it wasn't stable enough, I remember when I downloaded something bigger than my free memory it crashed... now I give to him a new try, firefox and midori today look like almost the same about memory consumption (a little less for midori), but midori seems to be faster on all my computers (the worst is chromium) but i'm not sure that midori it is well rendering all websites, I need more time to get a good idea... I didn't try to download big stuff too...
anyway the real bottleneck (for me) it's that "über" shit called flash... this monster blow up all my memory and my cpu... and about that midori can't do miracle
edit :: bug report :: https://bugs.launchpad.net/midori/+bug/ … mments=all I'm not the only one

I agree with you about speed and memory midori is really good when it comes to that
Hell I might even move from firefox to midori .. hmm nah might... its official Ive just left firefox .. Ive always hated firefox cpu and memory consumption fuck firefox !!!! hello midori !!!
and regaurds to google chrome they rant its the fastest browser .. sorry its not and its as nearly as bad as firefox when memory
Yea Ive had this problem with a few sites on firefox before and seen that there is ways around it by editing the links and using the short cuts and it will show the place holders but as just adding the bookmarks some sites midori wont show the images and fail !!

but don't delete firefox too quickly, because personaly I suspect midori to not rendering correctly some websites on one of my computer... as I plan, I'll use midori for some time and watching how everything goes...

np .. ok I see its missing some features that firefox like double clicking the tab bar to open a new tab which I really like, its annoying to have to right click and then select open new tab
while we are on the subject of browsers I found an interesting one .. http://www.slimboat.com/en/dlpage.php
it reminds me of the avant browser I use to use in windows many moons ago!!!
some of the aspects are no great like the download manager but I havent tested whether I can change it

about my sig, is a jocke I'm sure you got it... you know I'm an old metalhead (I'm not listening only black metal), there still some people in my vicinity to say i'm a freak... that makes me laugh...
anyway, there is some light web browsers around the web, but as everybody can check, problems come from websites using stuffs like flash, silverlight, javascript and so on... I tried few weeks ago a neat browser, but it doesn't support javascript yet I think his name is "net surf".
After that if you like vi-like stuffs, uzbl is one I loved to use (today I want something that everybody can use without having to pass a master "how to use a computer"...)
for open a new tab in midori there is an icon at the left of the toolbar. about the double-clicks you can suggest this as a new feature if you are motivated enough.
Me for now, I'm gonna use midori on several computers, and only one will keep firefox just in the case... because, there something to take care : governmentals websites can refused to render if they don't recognize your webbrowser correctly... and I'm living in two countries (not at same time... i'm not a quantum particule... even if I wished to be a boson, so nobody could catch me, see me, annoy me...) both countries have crappy governmental websites... just for example one week ago I had to download adobe reader to open a "special pdf"...
