clock font color

Using the Datetime panel plugin. I know this worked previously but it isn't now.  Maybe it was a different time plugin?  But Datetime is the one I prefer (orage is too fancy):

<span foreground="#FFFFFF">%l:%M %P</span>

This didn't work either.

<span color="#FFFFFF">%l:%M %P</span>

Or this:

<span fgcolor="#FFFFFF">%l:%M %P</span>

What's up with this?
