Thunar file renamer - Audio Tags

Hello All,

Is there any way to add 'Composer' and 'Album Artist' to Thunar's file renamer tag options?

Hi, mlsmith.

I guess you're referring to bulk renaming, and the Audio Tags option? The default tag is 'Title', but if you look at the drop-down list next to Format you'll see 4 options with Artist.

You're correct, I am referring to the bulk renamer. Unfortunately, the format does not support 'Album Artist' ('Artist' is different) or 'Composer'.

I use the following naming structure for my music files: [Composer] - [Album Artist] - [Album] - [Track #] [Title]

I use 'Composer' field to track the record label.

I know there are some music players out there that will organize files for me in this way but it would be awesome if Thunar had this built in. :-)

Ah, so I see that it's thunar-media-tags-plugin that gives thunar the ID3 tag support. Is it fairly easy to make it recognize additional ID3 tags?  *crosses fingers*

Maybe arename is what you are looking for. From its manual: "arename is a tool that is able to rename audio files by looking at a file's tagging information. It uses this information to assemble a consistent destination file name. The user can define the format of the destination filename by the use of template strings."

Thanks for the suggestion, jbar. I'm using EasyTAG now to manage my meta data and mass rename. It's good to know arename exists though.
