xcfe-indicator-applet not reading blacklist >_<

So, I use the indicator applet to move my appmenues to my panel, but in some of my installations of linux (in virtual machines) it wont read the setting that blacklists all the other indicators that I don't want..

The only difference I can think of between the machines that work right and the ones that don't, is that the ones that it works in all have xfce compiled from source, rather than installed via ppa.. Also, the machines in which it does work, are all physical machines, but I doubt that would affect this.. Anyone know what's up? I'd like to be able to install via ppa and still have a working indicator applet..
