Hi,
I'm new to XFCE but I've been using KDE for 3 years.
First time I've seen XFCE I liked it so much that I'm planing to switch from KDE to XFCE in my next reinstall.
But there is one thing that I really miss, this is the KDE kickoff like start menu (or vista like).
I'm curious is there any way to add search functionality to XFCE start menu?

The most similar (but not much) would be the mint menu. But I don't even know if it can be used in Xfce (it's available for Mint, Debian and Ubuntu, but since Mint's apps are usually just python scripts, if it works with Xfce you could use it with any distro).
But there are search plugins for the xfce panel.
For Debian they are xfce4-smartbookmark-plugin (search the web) and xfce4-linelight-plugin (front-end to locate).

I know, it's not and answer to your question, but the same functionality can be obtained with an application launcher. Synapse is very fast and works great under Xfce. But instead of clicking on the menu, it's launched by a keyboard shortcut (CTRL-space by default).
Give it a try :-) http://www.webupd8.org/2010/11/syanpse- … ncher.html

Thank you for your answers,
Yes, mint menu is the analogue of kickoff I search for, and I'll try if it works on XFCE.
As I understand there is no native solution in XFCE for this, so there is a room for future development.
If I have some free time later this year, I'll try to fill this gap in XFCE by developing something like mint menu for XFCE.
I'm experienced in windows development and not so much in Linux but ... I think the best way to learn is to develop something that you need, isn't it?

Actually it seems there are quite a few 'enhanced' menus made for gnome and that probably could be adapted to Xfce.
