Howdy

I first tried XFCE in the summer of 2011 after the typical Ubuntu/Unity fiasco. At that time I still had a 2003 Dell Inspiron 1100 with a whopping 8MB of video RAM and a 20GB hard drive. After trying Xubuntu, I found it to be very usable if a little flaky. Nevertheless I stuck with it. A few months later I bought a new Toshiba L755D-S5218s with a quad-qore AMD processor adn 1366x768 screen. Windows 7 seemed stable and very useful, but even before I bought that machine I wanted to run Linux. I tried a number of distros but none could provide the correct screen resolution. Then I tried Linux Mint Debian with XFCE; correct resolution first try. I'm hooked.

I am also very happy with XFCE on my new box. It has only been a week since I installed Mint Debian and I'm finally getting around to figuring out the Fn key mappings. None of them work out-of-the-box, but I'm sure I'll find the correct config file tweaks.

So that's my hello. See ya on the fora.
