Hi there,
I started to play around with Xfce on my desktop (strangely enough I found out about Xfce by installing it in ubuntuchroot on HP touchpad - but thats another story). I am trying to use it on opensuse 12.1 together with compiz, my question is: what is the proper/most convenient way to configure the window decorations (mainly color and font of window titles)??

if you are using the default Xfce's windows manager (xfwm4), you can configure windows decoration theme by : xfce4-settings-manager > Window Manager > Style
Those themes are usually found in /usr/share/theme/<theme_name>/xfwm4 or ~/.theme/<theme_name>/xfwm4
Xfce is NOT Xubuntu. Bugs in Xubuntu don't mean that Xfce is buggy ...

with compiz enabled the window manager menu does not appear at all - I am trying to use the cairo decorator. (with the use_metacity_theme = false option in gconf - if I set it to true the window border dissapear completely) Is it possible to use the xfce window borders with compiz?

When you have selected compiz as your window manager, the xfce own window manager menu is supposed to be empty, since compiz has replaced xfce's own manager xfwm4. With compiz, you probably should install Emerald (or an analogue) for themes.
