Disable xfwm4 and use gtk2+ Themes?

Hi!

There are a lot of good themes for gtk2+ out there, but only a few xfwm4 themes and I don't really like the separation of window borders and window content. So is it possible to disable xfwm4 and only use gtk2+ as window manager?

Or is it at least possible to fully convert gtk2+ themes to work with xfwm4? Cause in my appearance settings I have a lot of good themes installed (in: /usr/share/themes) but my window borders use the theme from "window manager".

I tried to deactivate xfwm4 in the terminal (killall xfwm4) but it automatically restarted xfwm4 again :-(

thanks!

It isn't really possible, but u can use metacity (Gnome WM). It should be better (but it isn't part of Xfce4)

metacity --replace

I think I could also install Compiz/Emerald?
But the best option for performance is probably to stay with fwm4 so I'm not going to install compiz. But thanks anyway.

Amen!

I was having a miserable time catching the (1px) border of windows to drag resize them.
Changing the "theme" didn't seem to help...
...took quite a while for me to stumble onto the "oh, window borders are setup separately, over HERE" dialog.

If Gtk would handle the window manager themes, then the application itself would provide the borders. Side affect would be that if the application is working (not in mainloop) you cannot resize or drag the window.

you can always create new xfwm4 themes with wider borders ... i have created several themes ... even ported over several metacity themes for PCLinuxOS and my Phoenix and Phinx releases ... i think it is great that they are separated ... means less confusion when creating new themes ...
