Greetings all:
I've used various distros including SUSE 9.0, Mandrake LE 2005, PC-Linux, and various *buntus. I originally started with KDE as a desktop, but when Ubuntu 5.04 came out, I tried GNOME and have pretty much stayed with that across the various distros. GNOME 3 just doesn't "do it" for me and I am trying Xubuntu 11.10(currently installed). It does require a little bit of a learning curve but things seem to be coming around. Did a fresh install without any hiccups late last night. Updates and additional software done today. Things are quicker than with
GNOME 2.32.2 and definitely faster than KDE 4.7.1. Here's some system info:

Hi and welcome !
I almost have the same hardware power on my desktop pc ;-) It good that Xfce exists !!
Xfce is NOT Xubuntu. Bugs in Xubuntu don't mean that Xfce is buggy ...
