How was this menu release-ready?
It doesn't work and I can't get it to work. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to how to get these menu entries to actually show up in the start menu. I'm baffled. And Alacarte does absolutely nothing.
Any thoughts?

How so? It handles Items much more easier, icons render in full res. now, and you actually know what Panel you're working on this time. Just to name a few. If you were expecting some sorta upgrade, then you gotta remember, this is still part of the 4.x branch and not 5.0.

Here is something I don't understand:
If I have an empty home/.local/share/applications directory, and I put one firefox desktop file in there, it shows up in the start menu and works.
However, if I duplicate the file, but change it to exec thunar and rename it thunar, then it doesn't show up in the start menu.
They both show up as the only two things checked in alacarte, but again only the firefox one shows up in the actual start menu.
They both have the same owner / permissions etc.
