network:///

Hi,

I'm on Arch and we've been upgraded to xfce 4.8.

I see in the 'visual tour' that we now have network browsing in Thunar, unfortunately I can't find any documentation telling me how to actually get beyond an empty "network:///"

I'm not sure what should be there, smb shares on local net? a way to add (s)ftp sites? Are there relevent dependencies that I might have missed?

Thunar's help system doesn't seem to have been updated since 2007 although it claims to speak for version 1.2.0. Has documentation been written for this part of Thunar yet?

Re: network:///

No it hasn't, and although the internals support different file systems, its not very accessible from the interface (bookmarking, mounted remotes etc). That's what's being worked on for the next release.

Re: network:///

Thanks Nick,

Can the Network part be disabled without a rebuild? Since the 4.8/1.2 update Thunar is taking about 20 seconds to open after a reboot, so it seems like an obvious thing to try.

cheers,

mark.

Re: network:///

AFAIK you can't disable gvfs modules, however in arch the samba part of gvfs is in a separate package "gvfs-smb".
