I noticed that the latest Thunar shows my / partition three times in the side tree, namely:
- under "File System"
- as another volume "21Gb File System"
- under /media/e9d2b2c6-778b-4ed4-b936-65bfb0ec735c in "File System"
the latter being the partition UUID.
I find all of the above quite confusing - it is an expected behaviour or should we consider it a bug?

That is indeed strange. Could you file a bug for this with more details about your disk setup (lvm, /etc/fstab, df output etc?). It could be a problem in GIO/GVFS (then it will most likely also show up in nautilus and gtk open dialogs) or in Thunar.

I'm a little embarassed...
While I was writing the bug report, I noticed that the partition mounted under /media is not the / partition(sda2): it is the root partition of another installation on sda1, and so is the "21Gb volume". The "culprit seems to be udisk: it mounts the partition even if it is commented out in fstab.
I'll investigate into it.
Thanks for your interest, anyway
