Hi, I was just testing Xfce 4.8pre3 and I was wandering why there is no possibility to open files from remote host with Thunar. If I connect to a remote host I am able to copy files to/from it, but I am not bale to open them in apps (such as mousepad or ristretto). Is that a problem on my machine, or is that a bug, or is that a feature?

A lot of application only support local files, defined by %f or %F in the desktop file. Only apps that support uris will be usable (%u or %U in Exec key), but even then the question is if they support them.

But all the filesystems are located in .gvfs, aren't they? So it is just a trick to send a fake URL to that application.

You're right and in fact, mousepad works fine here (with %f) and is indeed pointed to ~/.gvfs. So I guess the problem is somewhere else.

You mean it should work and problem is somewhere on my side? Glad to hear that.

I think you need to install gvfs-fuse to get this working, it does the "fake url" thing you are talking about.
