parole and .dat movies

hello,
xubuntu 10.10, xfce 4.6.2, parole 0.2.0.2
i have movies on .dat format. when i insert the VCD, parole gives this message : "a vcd protocol source plugin is required to play this stream, but not installed".
i have already installed the restrictions extras. i have already ticked on the gstream plugin in the menu EDIT.
what is this plugin or this stream not installed?
