slackware 13.0 xfce4 version xfce-4.6.1-i486-5
trying to use xfce for one of my users on my LAN. Have three computers all running slackware 13.0. xfce works fine for most users on all computers but for one user when I select xfce from a kde login manager the mouse on the screen just sits there then I get an almost blank screen (it has some sort of graphic overlay).
the problem get more interesting as when logging remotely (remote X) as the same user xfce works fine.

I suggest you have a look at the ~/.xession-errors. It could give you some useful info.

thanks that does give some hints:
/usr/bin/startxfce4: X server already running on display :0
xrdb: "Xft.hinting" on line 9 overrides entry on line 6
xrdb: "Xft.hintstyle" on line 11 overrides entry on line 7
Agent pid 3186
(xfwm4:3200): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: pantry:0.0
(xfdesktop:3203): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: pantry:0.0
xfce4-panel: Cannot open display: pantry:0.0
but if I log in as another user (on the same machine (local)) it works

tried killall kdm then /usr/bin/startxfce4 as user in question from F1 and xfce came right up so answer must be with the login manager kdm.

noticed /Desktop was different from other users so removed it. XFCE then started to work but was crippled
(couldn't move windows or access menue with mouse click.)

hrm, sounds like some important parts of the DE didn't start for some reason. make sure xfdesktop, xfwm4 and xfce4-panel etc are all running. (ps ax in a Terminal)

yes some of them don't appear.
must be somthing in /home/user may try to backup that then recreate an empty one and see what happens.
did find a couple of lock files in ./qt , removed that directory but noticed no xfce behaviour changes.
strange as xfce works everywhere else (other users, other computers)

copied (cp -pR) /home/user to /home/user_bak
created new /home/user, adjusted permissions.
XFCE4 now seems to work OK.
now have to finish moving various suffs over.
