I installed xfce 4.4.2 update in Xubuntu 7.10 (includes Thunar 0.9.0). I followed the instructions from
http://j1m.net/2008/01/07/get-xfce-442- … ty-fawn-2/
Now I have two NTFS partitions on my drive that I can no longer see or mount in Thunar. They worked fine in 4.4.1.
If I go to the partition editor (GParted) on the hard drive just to see, I get an error for each NTF partition that says:
Failed to Mount "Label"-hal-storage-fixed-mount refused uid 1000.
There is a big ! symbol next to each NTFS partition. If I boot the system from a live CD and start the CD copy of GParted, there are no ! symbols, so it looks like the xfce update broke something in the installation.
Both NTFS partitions are intact, and I can boot Windows via Grub with no problems. I just cannot access data from them while in Linux anymore.
There must be a way to fix this if a live cd seems to mount all partitions OK.
Can someone with a dual boot ext/3- ntfs system please post their fstab file so I can try to figure this out?

Yeah, same problem here. With my 7.10 Xubuntu, NTFS disks just showed up after booting. After a clean install of 8.04 I have to mount them manually :-(

I think I found the reason. Installing thunar_0.8.0-6ubuntu3 from gutsy brings the ntfs partition back. Examining the changelog of thunar in Ubuntu, I see that they dropped a special gnome-mount patch.
thunar (0.9.0-1ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low
[...]
02_gnome_mount.patch, debian/patches/06_eject_fix.patch: dropped
The patch was introduced in
thunar (0.8.0-0ubuntu4) feisty; urgency=low
[...]
* debian/patches/02_gnome_mount.patch:
use gnome-mount instead of exo-mount to take advantage of its better
support for NTFS, encrypted storage and non-privileged mount of non-removable
partitions. Show the latter in the Thunar left-pane.
So it was just a present from the Ubuntu maintainers in gutsy which was presumably dropped in anticipation of a fix in 0.9.0. Will mail the maintainer about including it again ...
