How do you apply an Xfce patch?

Hi,

I have this problem:

The problem is I have no idea how to apply the patch? Could anyone point me in the right direction please?

I would upgrade to 4.4.2, but I use Gentoo and it is not yet in Portage.

Download the 4.4.2 tarball and compile it.
