hello ,
i created a soundtheme for my new xfce desktop , but is there really no possibility to implement it ?
at least i would really need a startup and shutdown sound...
greetings

There is no sound theme support in Xfce... You can however play a login sound by adding an autostart app to the session manager that plays a sound.

i hope they will implement it soon , even some small windowmanagers have soundtheming options ...
without there is simply something missing in comparence to other GUIs/WMs

Sorry for digging up this old topic, but I have the same problem now and since sound theme function still doesn't seem to have been implemented yet I wonder, does anybody know an application for this purpose. I mean, I could autostart a media player like MMS but that doesn't seem to be the best solution to me.
Or is there a way to play a sound file through a simple script at XFCE start?

You can play a start "song" in GDM login manager.
Or you can add to autostarted apps something like:
play /home/dergutekoenig/.startsong.wav
