Starting and stopping xfce4

I installed xfce4, but i just need it for when i have to really use a gui for a certain application, and when ready from it, i need to stop it (& the xserver)
I also need to remove it from starting automatically at startup?

Any help on this? Thanks

in CLI - xfce can be started by simply typing - startxfce4
exiting xfce should kill both Xfce and X.

as far as preventing ixfce and X from starting by default, check w/ your distro's forum, manual or irc channel.

exiting as in killing xfce4 processes from cli or there is another way?

going to Quit in the Menu or using the Panel button should exit Xfce.
also running xfce4-session-logout, will exit it aswell...

"xfce4-session-logout" works if you're running xfce4-session. It displays a menu with all options: Logout, Restart, Shutdown, etc.

What command is getting executed when you click the "logout" button?

What if you aren't running xfce4-session, you don't want to display a menu, you just want to kill xfce and drop straight to terminal?

(without killing xorg server? with killing xorg server?)
