Different desktop icon grid after XFCE 4.20 update

Hi everyone!
This is my first post on this forum, so I wanted to say hello to all of you.

After the XFCE 4.20 update, the desktop icon grid spacing has changed. Previously, icons had a specific minimum distance from the top of the screen that worked perfectly with my Conky panel setup. However, the update seems to have reduced this minimum distance, causing desktop icons to overlap with my Conky panel.
Has anyone else experienced this change? Is there a way to adjust the minimum spacing from the top of the screen?
Additionally, if any developers are around, I'd be curious to know what code changes led to this behavior difference.
Would appreciate any help or insights on this!

Re: Different desktop icon grid after XFCE 4.20 update

Hello and welcome.

I think I noticed this as well. Are you running the X11 or wayland version of Xfce?

Can you try this to see if it makes a difference? Add a panel to the desktop and aligned with the top of the screen with "Always hide enabled". No need to add anything to it. In the Panel Properties, ensure that "Reserve space on screen edges" is enabled. Does this move the icons down?

X11 version

Hahh, a clever hack to improve the situation. I tried to do what you said and it does indeed reserve space at the top of the desktop - making a sort of margin, the only thing that didn't work was hiding. For the option to reserve space to work, the panel must visible, but I set its transparency and it's okay. However, the minus of this solution is that it also reserves space at the top when I maximize application windows. And this is a downside for me, because this conky monitor is not so crucial that I have to look at it in every application I work on (I only need it on the desktop). Therefore, the trick you suggested is a helpful solution, but not 100% the same as it worked on the desktop before.

I wonder what setting or code is responsible for the distance of icons on the desktop or the arrangement of this grid. Something 100% must have changed with these icons.

I don't see a bug report for this so you may want to create one. As a potential option, what about moving the conky display to the bottom, or arranging the icons starting from the bottom?
