[SOLVED] Cannot change suspend time from 60 minutes in 4.20

My system is a i5 desktop running Arch Linux and XFCE 4.20 (updated today). Dual displays and Nvidia card. I have been using XFCE since 4.14 and find it very convenient.

Since the installation of 4.20 the Power Manager System suspend time ("when active for") can only be set between 0 (ie never) and 60 minutes. I have tried to increase the max suspend time in the Settings Editor to 120 minutes but that does not change the actual suspend time shown in the Power Manager System panel. Neither does editing the xfce4-power-manager.xml file in /.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/.

However any change in the Power Manager Display panel ("put to sleep after" and "Switch of after") reflects immediately in the xfce4-power-manager.xml file and in the Settings Editor.

Is the 60 minute suspend time hardcoded somewhere in the power management app? How to change? 60 minutes is probably Ok for a laptop but gets a bit irritating on a work desktop.

And you tried, after change inactivity-on-ac to 120 in xfce4-settings-editor (which change it also in xfce4-power-manager.xml), although xfce4-power-manager-settings show 60, if really suspended after 60 or 120minutes? :-)

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot change suspend time from 60 minutes in 4.20

Good question! I realize that i was a bit sloppy in my fault analysis. The computer suspends according to the value shown in the settings-editor, ie 120 minutes even though the power-manager setting shows 60 minutes.

test: Open the power-manager window and the settings editor menu alongside one another. Move the power-manager suspend slider. The value in the settings editor also changes in accordance with the slider. Also if I enter a value less than 60 in the settings editor (eg 53) then the slider in the in the power manager moves to that value. HOWEVER, if I enter a value greater than 60 (eg 65 or 120) then the slider move the right end limit and show 60.

My conclusion: The value in the setting editor controls the suspend time for the computer. The value in the power manager is syncronized with the setting manager value up to 60 minutes but has some kind of GUI range limit at 60 minutes.

So now I can set my suspend time at 2 hours or more, but the power manager GUI is a bit misleading. Hope this helps to track down the bug.

Commit that changed the value: https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-powe … c66a177cf2

Rationale in this bug report: https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-powe … /issues/92

It is an inconsistency though - maybe a bug report would be a good idea. Gnome allows up to 2 hours. Be interesting to know what Plasma allows.

probably a little late :-) but before ToZ post i try "investigate" source code, found this, change to 180, compile&install and confirm, GUI xfce4-power-manager-settings allow me set max 180 minutes :-)

Added later 31 min 02 s:

So i try KDE Neon User (20250105) in virtual and in Settings/PowerManagement see for Suspend Session pulldown menu with predefined 1/2/5/10/15/30 minutes and Custom where can be set ex. 180 minutes and have max input set to 9999 minutes :-)
