@ToZ
I had already asked about this, see #5 and #6 (sorry RaySurf), but it's not quite what I meant.
I have attached screenshots. Your code spreads the range of line numbers, but I meant the space before the text field, i.e. between the line number and the text.
Unfortunately, I can't get along with the dom-inspector, so I can't find the identifier for the text area. If you could tell me, I would be very grateful.

.mousepad .sourceview {padding-left: 10px}
...works for me. Can you add that code to your ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css file, restart mousepad, and post back an image of the spacing?
Edit: also which version of mousepad are you using? If you've got an older version than ".mousepad" might not yet be defined in the code.

Thank you for your reply.
My system is a debian sid with mousepad 0.6.3-1
On my screenshot the cursor is directly under the dot, at the beginning of the text area.
I would like to have a little more space to the left of it, not in the area of the line numbers.

I don't think that's possible unfortunately, the sourceview widget doesn't appear to support that. However, if you click in the space between the number and the text it should move the text cursor to that line. Would that suffice?

Unfortunately, but yes, it all works, so it's just a cosmetic thing. But with a little more space at the beginning, it would be nicer to use.
thanks for checking the code
and best regards
