How to set default wallpaper

On Debian 12 xfce4, I would like to set the default wallpaper; either system-wide or for my user. What file do I put the wallpaper in ? And what XML file do I need to edit to pick up my wallpaper ?

Re: How to set default wallpaper

Setting>>Desktop>>Background

It defaults to /usr/share/wallpapers on a fresh install nut you can select your own folder then select the image.

Re: How to set default wallpaper

It looks like I have to prepare an 'xml + svg' file. How do I do that (starting from a jpeg image) ?

Added later 2 h 42 min 29 s:
Can I make wallpaper with a jpeg or png file, or does it have to be svg ?

Re: How to set default wallpaper

You can use png or jpeg. Where are you getting your info from and what are you talking about with "preparing an xml file"?

Re: How to set default wallpaper

I set up a new Debian 12 VM with gnome and xfce4, and logged in with user tjcw. I followed your instructions for setting the wallpaper and found it offered directory tjcw ... my home directory ... which contained two icon files, one being ".face" from memory. On selecting it I got the icon large size as my wallpaper.Looking at the file with vi showed it starting with some XML and continuing with some svg

Will inkscape be able to edit it ?

When I get back to the VM I will try a jpeg in my home directory
.

Re: How to set default wallpaper

If you have an image you want just use the folder navigation provided in the settings. Choose other and navigate to the folder with your image. The contents will be displayed in the preview window. Just select the image you want from the preview. You can also adjust on the right side. scale, tile, zoom etc.
