Hey, I figured I should introduce myself properly.
I've tinkered a lot with Linux (mainly Debian/Ubuntu) during my youth for fun, but I've always found Linux too janky, asking too much of users in terms of tweaking and configuration for a mid, often bugged result, so I sticked to Windows... that is until the fiasco with Windows 11 and Microsoft adding more and more spyware into their OS.
Since I refuse to switch to W11, I bit the bullet and am currently trying to daily drive a Linux distro. Proton on Steam was a huge factor that decided me to make the switch also.
Current setup is Arch Linux + XFCE, still a bit annoyed about the fact that I have to do the visuals myself (that's the kind of "Linux jank" I was talking about), but now I'm thinking that what I call jank might be a lack of knowledge, and that learning more about XFCE will eventually make the experience great.
And that's why I'm here, to learn more about this DE and make it awesome for my daily use!

Hello and welcome.

This is why I think Xfce is the best DE out there (all things considered). You can shape and mold it to be what you want it to be because of all of the customization options. I differentiate customization with configuration because there are other DEs (e.g. Plasma) that offer much better configuration options, but not the level of customization that Xfce does. Its like being able to roll up your sleeves and get dirty in the Mustang engine to fix it just the way you want. And yes, its not easy to learn, there is a lack of documentation, it can be frustrating, but the end result is worth it.
