Linux Mint 21.3 XFCE customization script for new installs

This is a dash shell script I came up with to customize new installations of Linux Mint 21.3 XFCE (yes, I've done a few).

It might not be of any use to anyone else, but I thought I'd post it here in case someone wants to cannibalize it for their own installation configurations.
It's heavily commented so it should be easy enough to follow. Usage instructions are at the top of the script file. Syntax has been checked with shellcheck.

Customizations:
- grub menu
- ntfs mounts in fstab
- systemd journal persistence
- systemd resolv.conf link target
- apt packages - remove unwanted and install wanted
- xfce desktop:

  • load panel profile

  • configure panel plugins

  • remove unwanted logout dialog options

  • change desktop theme

  • change icon theme

  • change cursor theme

  • change window theme and set window manager options

  • configure xfce terminal

  • configure Thunar

  • configure xfce power manager

Edited files are backed up with timestamped file names, and all output is sent to the terminal and a timestamped log file.
