xfce4-terminal: wall & write not showing

sending messages with wall & write works fine on tty1 but nothing is shown on x4-terminal.

is there a setting to tweak?

Yes it is. xfce4-terminal, like gnome-terminal uses vte3, and vte3 no longer supports utmp - which wall/write use. You can get more info about this issue starting here and the links included there.
