Thunar 4.16.10 Create file from template highlights file extension

Hi all. On Thunar right-click and choose new document, and then choose one of the file templates, e.g. file.txt. Then Thunar asks for the name of the new file. In the dialog box that pops up, the file extension is also highlighted, not just the file name, so when typing the new name it overwrites the extension. Compare this when renaming a file where only the file name is highlighted. In versions previous to 4.16, only the file name was highlighted when creating a file from template. Is there a way to achieve this behaviour with 4.16? Is this a bug?

It was a bug that was fixed in 4.17.7. See: https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/-/issues/676.

Is there a way to achieve this behaviour with 4.16?

It doesn't look like it was back-ported to 4.16. If you are so inclined, you can post in the bug report asking for a back-port to the 4.16 branch.
