Emblems - which directory is used

I would like to add some new emblems. A search for emblems found them in many directories.

Which directory are the ones that show when you want to add an emblem?

Your current icon theme's emblems folder (or up the icon theme hierarchy until one is found). The file should be prefixed "emblem-" to show up.
