are there any Xfce tools that can help find which process has a window open? something that can list all windows (a list as in rows of text) that are open can be some help. if it merely shows which port number the X server got the connection on, that would be a good start.

Try using xfce4-taskmanager. There is a button on the task bar which can be used to identify the process by clicking on a window.

you have to open task-manager in the same workspace as the window you want to identify, but the looks like what i need, but i have a Python script to run a command in a specified workspace.
