For two years I have been creating configs for Fvwm that I call "myEXT extensions". A month ago I found this interesting question to combine Xfce with Fvwm which was a common practice in the mid-20s. It became my perfect WM.
https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=9880
It works well with Xfce 4.16 and Fvwm3/Fvwm2 (2.6.8). Xfce is an excellent application manager and Fvwm is the best window/virtual manager. This combination is light with unlimited functionalities. There are ready-made Fvwm configs that are available to add. To merge, add this file and content to .config/autostart/XfceFvwm.desktop and load Xfce.
[Desktop Entry]
Exec=fvwm3 --replace
Exec=fvwm --replace
This is how it looks:
Xfce panel 1 (taskbar), panel 2 (app icons), and whisker menu. Visible Fvwm extensions (left to right):
1. Fvwm OverView button of current windows.
2. Menu for system tasks and wallpapers.
3. Thin window title bar.
4. Window manager bar to resize, move, tiling, etc.
5. CurW/AllW - List of windows on current and all desk pages.
6. VM Desk - Virtual Window Manager 2x2 Pages.
7. Thumbnails of iconified windows (terminal and thunar).
8. 1x5 Miniature view of desktops.
9. Calendar, time, and date button.

Thanks for sharing - its definitely a unique combination. Xfce is so modular that you can easily do things like this.
Please remember to mark your thread [SOLVED] to make it easier for others to find

The more I dig into it, the more I come to that realization!
Well, maybe some things aren't necessarily easy but with a little bit of tinkering, you can get almost anything done to your liking.
Remember to edit the subject of your topic to include the [SOLVED] tag once you're satisfied with the answers or have found a solution (in which case, don't forget to share it as well), so that other members of the community can quickly refer to it and save their time. Pretty please!

If anyone is interested to check how Xfce with Fvwm extensions works, here is one live ISO. It may not be your favorite distro (MX Linux) but this is just a test.
Includes:
Xfce 4.16
Fvwm3 1.0.4
Xfce-FvwmEXT-v1.0.5
Download (MX21.1-Xfce-Fvwm-EXT-v1.0.5_x64.iso):
