I love Thunar and Catfish but can be a bit cumbersome to properly search for files. I would expect to be able to search for files directly from Thunar and not open another application for that. I can search by name in thunar in the folder I am in, but cannot do a deep search inside a folder and subfolders. You can right click a folder and open with Catfish but...is a bit of a weird behavior.
Are there plans to better integrate the two?

There are some changes coming in version 4.17.5 where the pathbar can search the current directory with a "Show More..." link to kick-off catfish for deeper searches.

Oh this sounds great! The only reason I am still using Nautilus with XFCE is that I cannot do such simple searches. So the show more opens catfish or somehow uses catfish to search via thunar?

It starts catfish, passes it the search term you entered, and automatically starts the search.

You know by any chance when this new version will be released? I'd like to test it!

It looks like 4.17.5 has already been released. In fact, thunar is currently at 4.17.6. It would depend on your distro's repositories and when they might have it available (however, it is a development release). You might need to build it yourself to get access to it if your distro doesn't provide development versions of software.
