Ctrl+D has stopped working with my desktop

I have encountered a problem that I cannot enter to desktop by ctrl+d. I suspect that it may be due to two panels.. Or may be two whiskers..  So kindly give me some guidelines.. I have followed all things but not able to do it work..

If you are referring to the "Ctrl+d" option when your system is sent into maintenance mode, you have a bigger issue here - you system is failing to boot properly. The messages on the screen would say why. You need to fix that before you can get into any desktop environment.
