Modify Xfdesktop code ? How do I ?

Hello !
I am interested at making a desktop environnement. I don't want to start from scratch so I took the Xfdesktop code and I started checking in with vs code.
As expected I got a lot of errors about #includes.
I wonder if anyone can help me because I can't find any help on forums.
I am going to believe that noone ever tried to modify xfdesktop !!!

Maybe someone can answer here, but just in case, I think this question could be placed in one of the mailing lists:

It's far easier for the devs to see your question there.

Then of course you have the xfdesktop repo and issue list at https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfdesktop/-/issues

and the installation instructions for xfdesktop; https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfdesktop/-/issues
