To have a shortcut or configuration of a compose key

How do we set up a shortcut or configuration of a compose key combination such as compose key + - + = is for generating +-, plus minus character/glyph ?
I tried keyboard -> layout -> compose key -> (any choice of key)   not giving any benefit

Not sure if this is what you're asking for (I don't have this experience myself, just posting something I found now), but maybe the section titled "Defining custom Compose sequences" in this article is of help?
