get microphone working in Chromium

Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia, Xfce. On Dell 1525 inspiron laptop.
i downloaded and installed Chromium for one purpose, and that is attend a class using Google Meet. But Chromium seem work well if at all with my on board microphone. Even using Chromium settings, i.e. the padlock in the address bar.
Google Meet works without Microphone issues on Firefox, but the audio of the teacher has lots of echo and sound like he needs to clear his throat.
Does any body have any ideas of what might be helpful?

Re: get microphone working in Chromium

I had a problem like that myself, and it turned out to be the case that Chromium was selecting the default microphone device, which is not the one that I am using. In Chromium do Settings -> Privacy and Security -> Site Settings -> Microphone. At the top left there is foldout menu where you can select the correct microphone device. This may not be the problem that you are having, but it is worth the while checking it out.
