Re: Xubuntu cannot boot

Sounds like the boot system is somehow corrupted, especially if you had a bad crash. Unusual. You may want to try and boot a live medium and reinstall grub. Your likely better off posting in the *buntu forums for a better answer. They would likely have better info. I haven't looked at a *buntu machine in many years.

Re: Xubuntu cannot boot

Download Super Grub 2 Disk, burn it to disk (or "burn" it to a USB flash drive), and boot it? That should be capable of repairing/rebuilding your boot menu, if it is possible to do so (and assuming that is your (only) problem). It didn't work for me, but did show me that my problem was "need a new hard drive," lol.

Booten brachte denselben Fehler

Yes, you download the .ISO (disk image) file, then burn it as a bootable disk image, not as a regular file.  Unfortunately, I am unqualified to provide more specific help about that whole process.

That was the one that I was referring to, and the one I would try first.

Re: Xubuntu cannot boot

First of all, xfce4 is a desktop environment part of your system, and if system do not boot that is not about desktop environment. While people here seems to be very helpful, they could not help with everything and if you try to contact people related to your specific distribution you may be able to find help way easier. I am not using xubuntu, but they seem to have forums, mail lists and IRC, i would suggest to try that
https://xubuntu.org/help/

speaking of your problem, you need to understand what exactly is wrong, by removing different possibilities, depending on what happened.

possible example problems:
update happened in parallel and broke your boot system
your HDD have failed
kernel updated and revealed some issue with your computer
you updated windows  which you may be have on other partition and that broke boot of linux
improper shutdown corrupted some filed
...

depending on what really happened you should be able to repair it.

I would do it by sort of eliminating classes of problems - understand what exactly is failing, try to boot from usb and launch your system, check if hdd is fucntional, etc.
But, that might be very hard and not necessarily best way for you (depending if you want to learn a lot or not and how much you know now)
Practically, I would suggest to reinstall the system and to make this process quite simple keep your /home on separate partition.

Now that you mention it... I just got curious and did a web-search for "xubuntu reboot and select proper boot device" - and there were a bunch of results from askubuntu.com and ubuntuforums.org. Among others, of course...
