In light of the intriguing but depressing posts about the eventual pivot to CSD, I'd like to make sure that XFCE doesn't update past 4.14*.
I know this command was posted somewhere (I think by Aravisian), but I can't find it.
Could some kind soul link its location or suggest the right command?
Many thanks,
Jake

Ah, that does help, thank you. It would appear that one can lock down a version in Synaptic, but any terminal apt-get will overrule the hold and install.
Appreciate you pointing me to that thread,

Re a terminal command, would this work:
apt-mark hold xfce4*

Re a terminal command, would this work:
apt-mark hold xfce4*
sudo apt-mark hold xfdesktop
sudo apt-mark hold xfwm4
sudo apt-mark hold xfce4
sudo apt-mark hold xfce4-panel
sudo apt-mark hold xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin
If using Whiskermenu
There may be more things that will need a package hold... I cannot recall off the top of my head- But I do know that when Some Things updated/upgraded when not all of XFdesktop was Held, it threw things off due to s.o. files (Shared Object).
I had to re-try it the first time I did it.

Great. Many thanks, Aravisian. Here's hoping we can keep the wolves at the door.

Perhaps every plugin will need its own hold.

That is interesting... I wonder what would happen if a person used the "goodies" package and then put a hold on that...
