i keep getting this window titled "Update Information" with content titled "Incomplete Language Support". it says:
The language support files for your selected language seem to be incomplete. You can install the missing components by clicking on "Run this action now" and follow the instructions. An active internet connection is required. If you would like to do this at a later time, please use Language Support instead (click the icon at the very right of the top bar and select "System Settings... -> Language Support").
it comes up only in user admin. i finally tracked the process:
lt2a/root /root 30# wmctrl -l -p

and can see that it comes from update-notifier which is run by xfce4-session. is this part of Xfce or GUI Desktops in general? i have tried doing the update it suggests, but it still keeps coming up. any ideas how to deal with this?

This looks like an ubuntu process/application. It isn't something that Xfce would do.

so "update-notifier" is not from xfce and "xfce4-session" just starts whatever is configured (somewhere) to be started at login? i have user "admin" autostarting at bootup, but i figured out the window comes up as a result of that login. other userids don't, but they are not expected to be doing package updates. this thing has been popping for months in both ubuntu+xfce 16.04 and xubuntu 18.04. i don't know if it would do that without xfce. google has found a few people getting this and a subset somehow getting it fixed by doing the update action. i've tried it twice with no luck.

In ubuntu-based distros it is started via Settings Manager > Session and Startup > Autostart Applications. In which case, xfce4-session will kick it off.

gotcha. i got it fixed, now. i tracked it down to a leftover notifier file. apparently my change from en_BR to en_US didn't go quite right as one point in the past. because of the way it tests that, i don't know if my language support is really complete, now.
