new 5 button mouse

i got a new mouse with 5 buttons.  the first 3 work like normal.  but the middle one is part of the roller, making it awkward to use.  all 5 buttons show up it xev as numbers 1,2,3,8,9.  i'd like to map #8 or #9 to act like #2.  is there a way to do that?
