some xfce process is not terminating at reboot

i have been having long waits to reboot since i installed Xubuntu 18.04 (formatted fresh install).  i tried terminating all the xfce processes before a reboot and the long wait did not happen.  so, it seems that something of xfce for some user is not exiting when it gets the term signal.  any ideas or suggestions?
