xfce4-terminal "find" command fails to identify all matches

xfce4-terminal v.0.8.8

I am experiencing an issue with "Find" in xfce4-terminal.  For example, if I search for

    82, 433

in

    [victoria@victoria ~]$ echo "{(82, 433, 0): 1, (82, 433, 1): 2, (22, 182, 0): 27, (22, 3785, 0): 659, ...}"
    {(82, 433, 0): 1, (82, 433, 1): 2, (22, 182, 0): 27, (22, 3785, 0): 659, ...}

Find only "finds" the first match, per line (in the terminal display text above, it should match twice per line, i.e. 4 matches).

However, in the example above "Find" will not match/highlight the second "82,433" string in each of the two lines illustrated.

Interesting. A bug report is probably the best way forward here.

I thought so too.

As a test, I ran dmesg | grep snd, then looked for snd with Find. Same results as OP with an another interesting (to me) tidbit; if a line wraps, it also finds the first instance on the next line.

Re: xfce4-terminal "find" command fails to identify all matches

Hi there, xfce4-terminal developer speaking.

This is a limitation of vte which is a terminal widget xfce4-terminal and few other apps are based on. The problem has been reported against vte multiple times but they haven't been able to resolve it as of now. There's nothing xfce4-terminal can do here.

Re: xfce4-terminal "find" command fails to identify all matches

Aside: quick shout-out to @f2404 and other xfce4-terminal developers: I've tried a few terminals over the years,

    gnome-terminal
    konsole
    guake
    yakuake
    ...

and some time ago settled on xfce4-terminal, native to my xfce desktop environment.  I very much appreciate your efforts, and the product -- kudos!  :-)
